Hah. For once I’ve read some books of those ‘top reads’ lists (Mr Norris Changes Train, and West), because I feel I always read so randomly and never follow the new releases.) My husband set himself a challenge to read 12 books in 2024 (which was very modest, but we have a small child and we’ve had quite a year). two days ago he realised he is 1 book short so I gave him Hard Switch. After he finished it (he loved it) he realised he counted wrong and he is STILL one book short, so he went and bought himself British Ice. (He also read Victory Point before). He is a fan now. Happy New Year!
Ah, that's great! Hope you enjoyed those books too. And thank you for converting your family to being fans, much appreciated. Happy New Year to you too!
Yo, I am here for like first time (not counting your newsletter with graphic in the kitchen) and after reading that one... I've written down "Q & A - Adrian Tomine", because it seems it might be something creative I might use in the upcoming year.
J L Carr’s ‘Month in the Country’ is my favourite book of all time. I have read all of Carr’s books. He began as a self-published writer. A truly remarkable man. His son wrote a biography, which I lent once too often!
I am also lucky enough to have a rare DVD of the film, which is close enough in tone to make it my favourite film and given you love J L Carr, there is every chance you will love The Dig by John Preston about the discovery of the Sutton Hoo burial. There is also a film, which is another favourite of mine.
I also see the grid in the bath again, but a smaller one this time. All good stuff. Best wishes for 2025. 🐰
A P.S. I have an imagined ending. He goes back to Oxgodby as a widower and meets Kathy Ellerbeck again, who is now a teacher… I do love happy endings!
Ah, interesting. I have seen the film of A Month in the Country, which I thought was a decent adaptation. Not read The Dig, but saw the film of that one too, which I'd be curious to read also. Thank you!

A friend gave me Question 7, saying it made him think of me, and he was right, I loved it.
Really amazing piece of work.
Great post, The Dig is now on my list, thank you.
No problem, I hope you enjoy it too!
